A frenectomy is the removal or loosening of a band of muscle tissue called the frenum.

The frenum is connected to your lip, cheek, or the floor of your mouth.

A restriction in the frenum muscle, commonly called a tongue-tie or lip-tie, can cause problems during all stages of life, including:

  • Difficulties nursing during infancy for mother and baby
  • Inability to stick your tongue out
  • Smile aesthetics
  • Impaired oral hygiene
  • Airway problems
  • Significant speech impediments

A frenectomy can free-up movement of your lip and tongue and improve your quality of life, no matter what age you are.
