Frenectomy

A small procedure with a great impact. This minor, in-office surgical procedure has helped our Roseville, Rocklin and Auburn dental clients to have a healthier smile and be a able to correct speech problems that often affect their self-confidence and self-esteem.
A frenum is a small fold of tissue that can attach to the inside of the lip, inside the cheek or to the bottom of the tongue.
When this fold is too large and abnormally placed it can cause various problems, such as:
A frenectomy procedure involves removal of that fold of tissue which is in an abnormal position. Eventually this frenum will grow back and attach at a normal, acceptable level.
Lingual Frenectomy: Involves the removal of the lingual frenum which is under the tongue and can help a tongue-tied patient. This minor oral surgery can often dramatically free-up the movement of the tongue. This can help improve speech and promote proper tooth and gum development in growing children.
Labial Frenectomy: Involves the removal of the labial frenum which is underneath the center of the upper lip. When attached too far down the gum it can create excessive pull on the tissue and result in gum recession or even cause spaces to expand between the teeth.
This safe, simple procedure can be life changing. If you have any questions about this procedure or would like to know more, please contact our Roseville dentist office. We would be happy to help you.
