Your treatment in our office has
primarily been to remove the
bacteria that grow below or at
the gum line of your teeth. Please
note that periodontal disease does
not "go away." If the plaque is
not removed on a daily basis,
your periodontal disease will flare
up again, possibly necessitating
a more radical approach to
therapy with a poorer prognosis
and greater potential for tooth
loss. For this reason it is very
important that you follow through
with preventative maintenance
appointments so that any recurrent
gum problems can be detected
and treated early.
Drs. Hakimi/Ahmad and your hygienist will perform a thorough examination and scaling to remove the bacterial plaque and tartar from above and below your gums.
The goal of periodontal therapy is to control disease progression since it can not be cured. Keeping scheduled appointments and following our instructions are instrumental in our joint effort to obtain a successful result. Remember, this time is reserved just for you and plays a valuable role in your periodontal health.
